It is officially time to prepare for “Detty December” in Oyo Town!
The Oyo State Government has announced the approval of a massive, month-long end-of-year carnival tagged #VibingDecember2025 (also known as Faaji December).
In a statement released this weekend by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, the government confirmed that the carnival is designed to open up the state’s tourism potential to inbound visitors and Diaspora returnees who will be coming home for the holidays.
What to Expect in Oyo Town
Unlike previous years where events were concentrated in Ibadan, the Commissioner assured that the fun will be decentralized. For residents of Oyo Town, this means the festivities are coming to our doorstep.
Highlights of the festival include:
- The Oyo Durbar: A grand display of horsemanship and royal pageantry.
- Amala Festival: Celebrating the culinary heritage of the region.
- Legendary Concerts: Featuring a “Beer Village” and artistes’ hangouts at designated centers.
- Ogbomoso Cradle Carnival and Ojude UI are also part of the state-wide lineup.
Boosting the Local Economy
The carnival is not just about enjoyment; it is a strategic move to boost local businesses. Mr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, noted that the event is intended to “create business opportunities for residents of the state throughout the yuletide period”.
Hotels, restaurants, and vendors in Oyo are advised to prepare for the influx of tourists.
Security arrangements have also been finalized to ensure that residents can enjoy the Faaji without fear. So, mark your calendars—December in Oyo is about to be unforgettable.
