The Oyo State Government has officially pledged to build people-centered smart cities driven by innovation, technology, and inclusiveness.
The Executive Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on the Oyo State New Towns and Cities Development Authority (OYNTCDA), Mrs. Mofoluke Adebiyi, made this known at the 2025 World Cities Day commemoration in Ibadan.
The Vision: Ilu-Tuntun The flagship project, “Ilu-Tuntun New City,” located in Akinyele Local Government Area, is conceptualized as a modern, globally competitive urban hub.
- Size: 2,600 hectares in the first phase.
- Features: Integrated smart infrastructure, innovation-driven enterprise zones, and inclusive residential neighborhoods.
- Technology: The state is leveraging Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial databases to improve urban governance.
“Smart cities are not defined by technology alone, but by how technology serves people,” Adebiyi emphasized. This project marks a major shift towards a digital-first economy for Oyo State.
